Grid-Tie Photovoltaic Case Studies

Heereman residence, White River Junction, VT

A long-time user of renewable energies, Mike was ready to install a photovoltaic (PV) system that would zero out his electric bill entirely. ReKnew mounted 26 PV panels on his roof which gave him a 4.94 kW system. His large, south-facing roof is perfect for capturing maximum sunlight all year, and he has indeed achieved a net zero electric bill.

Wetzel residence, Orford, NH

This location includes an original 1800s house situated on a beautiful horse farm. The barn shown here is new post and beam construction. The roof holds 13.0 kW PV which is enough to offset almost all of the Wetzel’s yearly electricity needs.

Blanchard residence, Rockingham, VT

This residence installed a 4.1 kW PV system, and were so impressed with their home improvement, they decided to add a 54 kBTU solar hot water system the next year. About his PV system, Wayne Blanchard says, “We are very happy with the system…It’s fun to watch the meter spin backwards and know that on a sunny day in the summer is a free electric day for us.”

Solar Hot Water Case Studies

Smith residence, South Strafford, VT

This 54 kBTU system supplies approximately 75% of the hot water needs for the Smiths.

Modern residence, Canaan, NH

This 56 kBTU system supplies approximately 75% of the hot water needs for the Moderns. Paul Modern says, “We’ve had it for a year now and everything appears to be working great even though this summer’s [weather] wasn’t ideal.”

Dual System Case Studies

Brown residence, South Woodstock, VT

The Brown family’s 4.68 kW photovoltaic (PV) system and 56 kBTU solar hot water system are powering their home with sunshine. They chose to install the hot water system on their roof which didn’t leave enough room for the PV panels, so ReKnew was able to ground mount 24 panels in a discreet location behind their house. We’ll let Dave Brown tell you more in his own words…
